The keyboard

Find any note on the keys by its letter.

GABCDEFG
Your first page so far. This lesson writes on the blue.

The keys go up in pitch from left to right. The white keys are named with seven letters, A to G, and then the letters start again: after G comes A.

The black keys come in groups of two and three, and they are how you find your place. C is the white key just left of each group of two; F is the white key just left of each group of three. From C the white keys go C, D, E, F, G, A, B, and then the next C.

Every C sounds like every other C, only higher or lower. The C nearest the middle of the keyboard is middle C (on a full 88-key piano, the fourth C from the left), the note this course starts from and the one your thumbs will share on your first page.
