The reading courseLesson 3 of 13 · Level 2
Notes around the landmarks
Read the treble staff to its top and the bass staff to its bottom, a step or skip from a landmark.
What's new on the page
The new notes around treble C and the bass clef's C, with their letters.
Around treble C the staff fills in: B just under it on the middle line and A in the second space, then upwards D on the fourth line, E in the top space, F on the top line and G sitting just above the staff.
Down in the bass, below the C in the second space: B on the second line, A in the first space, G on the bottom line and F hanging just below the staff. Low C is three steps further down.
Now the whole of both staves is yours. If you like a check, the treble lines from the bottom are E, G, B, D, F and its spaces spell F A C E; the bass lines are G, B, D, F, A and its spaces A, C, E, G. But read from the landmarks: a mnemonic is slow, a landmark is a glance.
The guides that go further: How to read the treble clef and How to read the bass clef.
